FAQs
What makes Advantage Web different from traditional web hosting?
Advantage Web also provides ongoing server management, monitoring and support, so you don’t need to become an AWS administrator.
Who is this service designed for?
Advantage Web is designed for individuals, sole traders, consultants, professional practices, trades and small businesses that want a reliable website without having to manage the technical aspects themselves.
Enterprise hosting requirements and large-scale infrastructure are outside the normal scope of the service.
Who receives the AWS bill?
Your AWS account remains your own.
Amazon bills you directly each month based on your actual usage. This keeps everything transparent and ensures you always retain ownership and control of your hosting account.
Advantage Web invoices separately for its managed hosting services.
Why does my AWS bill change from month to month?
AWS uses a pay-for-what-you-use pricing model.
Most business websites have very consistent monthly costs, however items such as storage, bandwidth, backups or optional AWS services may vary slightly depending on usage.
During your initial setup, Advantage Web will recommend an AWS configuration appropriate for your website and provide guidance on typical monthly costs.
What happens if my credit card expires?
AWS will notify you if your payment method needs updating.
You can update your payment details by signing in to your AWS account. Assistance is available if required.
Can you help me understand my AWS invoice?
Yes.
AWS invoices can contain a number of technical line items. If you’re unsure what something relates to, Advantage Web is happy to explain how the charges apply to your hosting environment.
What is an AWS Reserved Instance?
A Reserved Instance is an AWS pricing option that provides a significant discount in exchange for committing to a server for a longer period, typically one year.
Where appropriate, Advantage Web will advise when renewal is due and can assist with the renewal process.
Do I own my AWS account?
Yes.
Your AWS account belongs to you.
Advantage Web manages your hosting environment on your behalf, but ownership of the AWS account remains with you.
What happens to the emails AWS sends me?
AWS occasionally sends emails relating to invoices, account information, security notifications and scheduled maintenance.
These emails should not normally be ignored.
Where appropriate, Advantage Web also receives notification of important operational events and can advise whether any action is required.
Who renews my domain name?
Domain names remain your property.
If you manage your own domain registration, renewal reminders will come directly from your registrar.
Where requested, Advantage Web can assist with domain transfers, renewals and DNS configuration.
Do I need to transfer my domain name?
No.
Existing domains can usually remain with your current registrar.
However, if you’re looking for a simpler long-term arrangement, Advantage Web generally recommends transferring Australian domain names to an Australian registrar such as VentraIP.
Can you manage my email as well?
Yes, where practical.
Every business has different email requirements, so recommendations are made based on your needs.
Advantage Web can assist with email configuration, migration and integration with services such as Amazon SES and Microsoft 365 where appropriate.
What support is included?
‘
The annual managed hosting service includes reasonable support relating to your hosting environment.
General enquiries, technical advice and routine administration are included.
More substantial work, additional projects or services outside the agreed scope may be quoted separately.
What happens if my website has a problem?
If an unexpected issue occurs, Advantage Web will investigate the matter as soon as reasonably practicable.
Many issues can be resolved quickly, while others may involve third-party providers such as AWS, domain registrars or software vendors.
Where work falls outside the agreed managed hosting service, this will be discussed before additional chargeable work is undertaken wherever practical.
Can I move my website somewhere else later?
Yes.
Your website, domain name and AWS account remain yours.
If you decide to move to another provider in the future, Advantage Web will provide reasonable assistance to help with the transition.
