Beyond standard website hosting
Every website has different requirements. While many businesses simply need reliable, secure hosting, others benefit from additional cloud services that improve performance, security or the way information is delivered.
One of the advantages of Amazon Web Services is that these services can be added when required without rebuilding your website.
Secure Cloud storage
Amazon S3 provides secure, highly durable cloud storage for documents, large image collections, audio recordings, videos and other digital assets.
Rather than storing large files directly on your web server, they can be delivered from cloud storage while keeping your website responsive.
Where appropriate, access to files can be controlled using temporary download links or other security measures, allowing authorised users to access documents without making them permanently available to the public.
This approach is well suited to businesses distributing reports, manuals, large photographs, marketing material or media files.
Website Email services
Website contact forms and automated notifications can be delivered using Amazon Simple Email Service (SES).
This provides reliable email delivery while helping reduce unwanted spam and improving email reputation. Messages can be forwarded to your existing email service, such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or another provider, allowing you to continue using your preferred email platform.
For those with a tech background, you have a dedicated static IP address that is not grey or blacklisted due to other people’s bad actor behaviour on shared IP platforms. Reputation matters.
Additional website protection
Security begins with good website design, sensible server configuration and regular maintenance, but further protection can also be added where appropriate.
For example, Cloudflare services such as Turnstile can help reduce automated form submissions without the frustration often associated with traditional CAPTCHA systems.
AWS and Route 53 also include features that assist in filtering invalid or unwanted requests before they reach your website.
These services are selected according to the needs of each client rather than applied universally.
Content Delivery Networks (CDN)
For organisations serving visitors across Australia, a Content Delivery Network (CDN) is often unnecessary because response times are already very good from Australian hosting.
However, businesses with international visitors or large media libraries may benefit from a CDN by storing copies of frequently accessed files closer to visitors around the world.
A CDN is particularly effective for websites containing large image galleries, downloadable resources or media-rich content where reducing download times improves the visitor experience.
As with all hosting decisions, we recommend a CDN only when it provides a genuine benefit rather than adding unnecessary complexity.
Choosing the right solution
Not every website requires every cloud service.
Our approach is to build a reliable foundation first and then recommend additional services only where they improve security, performance or the overall experience for your visitors. This keeps systems straightforward to maintain while allowing them to grow as your business evolves.
